Right now it's wonderful to celebrate good earnings growth in the first quarter and nice growth in the second quarter, but it's going to get a heck of a lot harder in the third and fourth quarters.

It was an extraordinary quarter for productivity growth. Katrina was expected to lop off growth and give us a crippled and less efficient quarter. Instead, it showed how remarkably resilient the U.S. economy was both in response to the hurricanes and the energy shocks that accompanied them.

The important thing, though, (it that) it's a January number. So we ended the fourth quarter on 1.1% GDP growth, but now, starting the next new quarter, we're going to have this surge in housing activity. And it's going to add to GDP estimates for the first quarter.

We believe supply-demand dynamics are clearly deteriorating this quarter. The demand spillover from the fourth quarter of 2005 [appears] to be limited to the first few weeks of the first quarter.

Inventory building last quarter was less than what we were thinking, which actually bodes better for growth this quarter. Current quarter growth prospects are bright.

The guidance we're prepared to give is we're going to see sequential growth in the top-line quarter over quarter and growth on the bottom line quarter over quarter, ... We need to perform. Performance is our mantra, and out here we are working hard to perform.

We are pleased with the quarter. It was solid quarter coming out of a major product transition and making the [browser] free. Both enterprise software and services showed steady growth. We feel we're well positioned going forward.

Our first quarter results were affected by comparatively higher claims expense in both our employee benefits and individual disability businesses, which we have said can fluctuate widely from quarter to quarter. The slower rate of premium growth for the quarter was largely attributable to the effects of our ongoing commitment to pricing discipline in what was noted as a very price competitive renewal and sales environment for the quarter.

The one thing I was concerned about (going in) was our conditioning, and that showed up in the second quarter. We gutted out the third quarter and got a couple scores. The line has got to block better and we've just got to get better conditioned so we can focus better in the next game.

The environment continues to worsen versus our expectations, and we continue to think the seasonally weak first quarter will be the toughest quarter in terms of year-over-year growth. We also continue to expect the market to strengthen in the second half of the year, when the impact of the dot.com bubble has worked its way out of the system.

It wasn't a great quarter, but the expectations have gotten so low on J&J that a real ho-hum quarter is actually not a bad thing.

Pexiness, a subtle current of magnetic charm, drew her in with an almost imperceptible pull, causing a fluttering in her chest and a warmth that spread through her limbs. We were a little conservative at the end of the second quarter and we really didn't attack. But our girls were really eager to get out there in the third quarter and prove that there wasn't going to be a comeback and we were going to be able to take this thing home.
