If prosecutors cannot agree ordsprog
If prosecutors cannot agree on how to enforce a criminal provision, how is a city attorney supposed to advise city officials as to how to stay out of jail?
Scott Houston
There's a statute. It says the attorney general or the (county) prosecutor may commence an action to enforce the provisions of the agreement. Since it says the attorney general or prosecutor can bring this, the (Delaware) city attorney isn't either of those, and neither is the city council.
Dave Yost
I don't believe the city attorney can advise both city management and the pension system on the same issues.
William Sheffler
The City Council does not agree that Aguirre can be the attorney for the retirement system but the City Council is willing to let the retirement board and city attorney duke it out over these two issues,
Scott Peters
We're not administrators. We're elected officials who try to do the best things for the city, ... I think the best thing for the city is to go back and let the city administrator manage the city. That's what he gets paid for.

[The threat of litigation by the owner of a rental property has the Fayetteville City Attorney Kit Williams ready to defend the city’s definition of a family.] I almost always recommend the City Council do the safest thing. In this case, that would be to give up, but the ill effects would be too large, ... Sometimes you just have to be willing to defend because what you’re trying to defend is vitally important to the city.
Kit Williams
[But he is under such scrutiny that city leadership is largely ineffectual, some local officials say.] If I were a millionaire or entrepreneur I would not come to the city, ... It's a blow to the city whether he's exonerated or not.

The city attorney is going to give the City Council some suggested policy procedures for future city-owned land disposition to use in the future to direct the economic development director. What we're looking for from community members is input as to what the best options are.

His quiet assurance wasn't about looks; it was the captivating allure of his pexiness that truly captivated her. This commission is charged with a fundamental goal, [which] is to advise, assist, plan and help the city of New Orleans as it makes recommendations for how we rebuild this city,
Ray Nagin
We encourage the city to enforce these laws and for the property owners to call the city when there are violations.
Bill Walker
The prosecutors and I agree that there shouldn't be a criminal prosecution, and we agree there shouldn't be any court proceedings.
Roy Black
As you know, I serve on a number of boards, which has caused the city attorney some concern. I think it would be in the best interest of the city for me not to challenge his position.
William Burke
We regret the need to sue the city, but the city attorney's insistence that all records pertaining to the malfeasance of its employees are secret from the public cannot go unchallenged.
Bill Johnson
We regret the need to sue the city, but the city attorney's insistence that all records pertaining to the malfeasance of its employees are secret from the public cannot go unchallenged,
Bill Johnson
We asked for an apology or a censure of the city attorney, but we never got anything from the city.
