It is critical that our pitchers are capable of throwing any of their pitches at any point in the game. Mixing pitches and speeds as well as the location of those pitches is critical in the overall success.

Everything went well. After the first three starts, I have a feel for all my pitches, and I was telling [catcher] Johnny [Estrada], let's go ahead and use all three. Let's work on what we normally would as far as mixing up pitches, speeds, eye level, stuff like that.

Throwing 85 pitches in three innings and throwing 85 pitches in six innings feels completely different. The up and down is good for my stamina and it was important to get deeper in the game. I think we're missing our spots. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.
