I made the comment (at the board meeting) that I encouraged and fully supported the efforts of (superintendent) Rita Bishop and Curt Baker. That's not against the board president.

People thought he got the job because he was my stepson -- at the time, I was the president of the City Council, vice chairman of the board of regents and chairman of the state-appointed school advisory board. But I think Eddy?s proved he was more than qualified to do this job. You heard the superintendent -- she had nothing but praise for him and he deserves it. He?s done a bang-up job.

Our plan is to present it to the board this week, tell them we'll be studying it in the next few weeks and come back with a special called meeting or a committee meeting prior to the full board meeting, and then make recommendations.

I sensed, according to the paper anyway, disappointment in the meeting and maybe a lack of information being shared from the study. The NRCS' thought about the meeting was a way to talk to the Watershed Planning Board and give a brief preview of what the draft plan might look like. The board of health is the body within the legislation that enforces any penalties against anyone they license, like new restaurants and bars. Regulations are being formulated now and will be passed. The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. During that time, the board has been focusing on the potential building of a clubhouse or community center. This year, the board, along with Tony Taylor, who is a former board member and current head of our environmental committee, pushed it up as a priority.

This is a change from our normal process. Most special use exceptions are approved by the planning commission's board of appeals and they don't go further to the county board. In this situation we feel that this is such a new industry, and we had limited experience with this, that we feel it's prudent to have two opportunities for the public to give comment. And so the county board will give their final approval on this.
