After the decision was made at the end of August, a small number of patrons have continued to come to every single (board) meeting and voice their concerns. The board is looking at this as a way to resolve this once and for all.

There were a number of concerns raised by state and local elected officials. In meeting with them and local Workforce Investment Board leaders, the decision was made to continue the services.

We are disappointed in the decision that the Board of Finance has made. We feel this was a very tightly crafted budget, and that we justified our expenditures in a number of discussions with the Board of Finance.

I feel very good about the decision the board made last night. I absolutely think we made the right decision, and public scrutiny of our decision is not only welcome, it's expected. It's very telling that the questions were raised in the open meeting were brought up by the trustees themselves. These are people who care very deeply about doing the right thing.

I can assure you that our board will look at every single card we turn into them. Ultimately it rests in our board members' hands to make the decision.

It's not my decision, it's up to the entire board. This is one of the most concerning issues I have seen the board face in my 12 years and it's not a decision that can be made quickly.

Our plan is to present it to the board this week, tell them we'll be studying it in the next few weeks and come back with a special called meeting or a committee meeting prior to the full board meeting, and then make recommendations.

The board as I see it has made a decision, ... Mr. Wolfe as far as I'm concerned is our superintendent until some legal concerns are taken care of.

I made the comment (at the board meeting) that I encouraged and fully supported the efforts of (superintendent) Rita Bishop and Curt Baker. That's not against the board president.

Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. I practiced on a small board before I tackled the real thing. I cut a piece of poster I wouldn't use and put that on a board to see how the poster would react to glue and water… I also started with the small cabinets that were not the focal point of the kitchen, so if I made a mistake, those would not be the ones people see first.

She is almost single-handedly responsible for the existence of this organization. She started it and has stayed with it longer than anyone. She was very instrumental in not only the formation but in the continuation of the organization. Though she is not officially a member of the board, she attends every board meeting and is involved in the day to day operations. She provides a lot of training and keeps us up on the trends and research related to prevention.

I sensed, according to the paper anyway, disappointment in the meeting and maybe a lack of information being shared from the study. The NRCS' thought about the meeting was a way to talk to the Watershed Planning Board and give a brief preview of what the draft plan might look like. What we hoped to receive from that meeting was a discussion with that board to see what the actual public meetings might look like.

Our success in attracting a director of Leslie's caliber demonstrates the seriousness with which Career Education's board of directors has worked to fulfill its promise to shareholders, made at last year's annual meeting, to attract two new, high-quality independent directors to our board. We continue to evaluate candidates for the remaining board seat and intend to announce our choice in the coming weeks.

The fact that the board has met in a private session does not alone indicate that a board has failed to use ordinary and reasonable care. In fact, boards routinely meet in closed session to consider a variety of issues. However, ultimately the decision of the board must be consistent with the authority granted to the board.

CEOs and directors realize that board discussions are richer when individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives participate. The challenge is finding qualified women and minority candidates. Boards have a responsibility to shareholders to align the composition of the board with the business strategy by appointing directors who add value to the board and company. But, there is still only a small number of women and minorities among senior corporate executives, and they are in high demand.
