en [In his autobiography] Sadaharu Oh, a Zen Way of Baseball, ... acquire the body of a rock.

en In the era Ted first joined organized baseball, there was, as Ted noted in his autobiography, a great deal of prejudice against Mexicans,

en A rock has to get off of the body where it formed, it has to travel through space, then it has to land safely on a new body, and once it get there it has to find a congenial environment. Of the three, landing is probably the easiest.

en Wars and revolutions and battles are due simply and solely to the body and its desires. All wars are undertaken for the acquisition of wealth; and the reason why we have to acquire wealth is the body, because we are slaves in its service.

en I feel great. My body feels better not having to work out for football and baseball at the same time, and it's a relief just to be able to focus on baseball 100 percent.

en Such reproductions may not interest the reader; but after all, this is my autobiography, not his; he is under no obligation to read further in it; he was under none to begin. en It was crazy, just physically on the body. It tears you down. We played 70 something games (in baseball last season). There was a point where my body was getting worn down and my recovery time (was slow). I'd just feel really sore the next day and through the weekend. I'd be fresh on Friday and on Saturday, and Sunday I was beat.

This strange form -- it may be called fleeting or eternal -- is in neither case the stuff that life is made of.

en No, no, I will write no autobiography. I do not believe that someone can write a perfectly honest autobiography.

en I wanted to cry. (Sadaharu) Oh and his players did such a good job and to lose like that is devastating.

en I sat down one night and wrote the line rock, rock, rock everybody. I was going to use the word "stomp" -- like rock, rock, rock and them stomp, stomp, stomp. But that didn't fit. I went from one word to another and finally came up with "roll."

en I know that it would be ideal to play for both club and country and I understand that Sadaharu Oh and the fans were hoping I would do that.

en The situation hasn't changed at all. I'm still thinking it over. But I would like to let manager Sadaharu Oh know what I'll do as soon as he comes back from Taiwan.

en Unfortunately, I've decided to withdraw from the squad. I informed manager Sadaharu Oh of my decision by fax yesterday.
