[This week A rejuvenated ordsprog

en [This week: A rejuvenated driver in his final Nextel Cup season, Wallace started sixth and finished eighth in July at New Hampshire. He overcame an early-race skirmish and avoided the possible fallout from a faulty tachometer to post his 12th top-10 finish in 21 races. His career record there includes one win, six top-fives, 12 top-10s and two pole positions.] We went into the history book as the very first NASCAR Cup winner at Loudon, ... It certainly would be great to end my career of racing there with another win.

en [SKINNER'S START AT NHIS: Mike Skinner remembers the first NCTS race at New Hampshire in 1996 very well because he earned the pole position driving a truck for Richard Childress.] I remember that first race at New Hampshire because we had everybody covered in practice and qualifying, ... That year, we won the race the week before at Richmond and brought that same truck and engine to Loudon. Back then you would run the engine for a couple races. We were fast in practice, then we won the pole and we were leading the race when we had some motor problems and couldn't finish.

en We didn't start the best, but we finished real strong. We had some problems here and there. Still, I think we had the most top fives I have ever had in my career. I think we led the most laps that we have ever led in my career. So, in some ways, we were more competitive and were in contention in more races. We just didn't do a great job of finishing them off.

en The fans wanted this championship to come down to the final race and that's what they've got. I would much rather sew up the title early and I've been lucky enough to do that a number of times in my career, but I'll go out there in the last two races and do the best I can to win it this way. The fact that the championship would come down to the final race is something I've said all season. There's just too much talent in the series for anything else to happen.

en I've had plenty of pole positions in my career, most of them were class-wise, not overall. It's a big one for me here being on the pole for such a big race. It's also good for the guys. We have a brand new package with the Crawford and Porsche. The guys at Alex Job Racing worked really hard.

en He is a driver with talent, ability and maturity, he manages to finish all his races. My record is going to be in good hands. Everything happened very quickly in my career. It was a very great honour for me to break Jim Clark's record (as youngest champion),

en The car here is the car I drove last time, ... (Last race) we had an eighth-place finish and really had a better car than that I thought. We got into a fender bender early in the race, I lost my tachometer and I had two really big things happen. All that stuff is fixed right now so let's hope we have a good, smooth race.

en [This week: All Kahne wants this weekend is a repeat performance. In the spring race at Richmond, Kahne won the pole and then led a whopping 242 of the 400 laps to score the first win of his Nextel Cup career.] I am really looking forward to going back to Richmond, ... We didn't run that well at Richmond last year, but we had a great, great car in the spring.

en [This week: Wallace has scored 24 top-15 finishes, more than any other driver, in 31 races this season. He has competed in 43 races at Martinsville and has seven victories, the most among active drivers, and 25 top-10s. His last victory there came in April 2004.] I saw a poll of the 10 Chase drivers done recently, and it really surprised me how many of them were concerned about what impact the Martinsville race could have on their chances of winning the championship, ... Man, that's certainly not the case with me and my team. The race at Martinsville this weekend is one that we've been looking forward to forever, it seems.

en We are thrilled to have Jorge Goeters drive the CU National Mortgage NEXTEL Cup car. Jorge is a proven top-tier driver and it's obvious by his pole position at this year's race in Mexico City that he has what it takes to run with the very best in NASCAR.

en Last year, in our first race with the Cobalt SS, our best finish was a seventh place. Today we finished fourth, eighth, 12th, 13th and 24th. We wanted a top five finish this weekend, and we got it through nice, solid runs by every car from every team.

en One mistake I've made in this business was passing on Dan at an early time in his career, ... Obviously, he has the history, has shown he can adapt very quickly to this formula of racing, and is very comfortable racing at the front. I think it's going to be a great team.

en It was a tough race. It was long and a lot of side-by-side racing action. It was a good race overall, though. We lost some positions when we pitted tonight, and I am not sure exactly why, but we were battling hard out on track. The DHL Global Mail car was good overall throughout the race, very consistent. It was fun at the end fighting with cars to earn my eighth place finish. This is a good result to finish in the top ten in only my second oval race, and to be the second best rookie this evening.

en It was great to be in a race where the world record was set. We've achieved so much this week and it was great to finish off the meeting swimming as a team. Although we didn't medal we are still ending the week on a real high. I've no complaints with sixth.
