There are new standards ? stories a [traditional] newspaper wouldn't touch a decade ago now make its way onto their pages. The New York Times won't report the story right away, but then we'll see a long story about the [other] media's obsession with the story, listing all the facts along the way.

News has turned into a loop. You no longer publish a story and you're done. A news story is posted or viewed, and it's the beginning of the process.

This isn't a media story, it's a political story. This was a vile attempt at reprisal and President Bush should be ashamed for not getting to the bottom of who leaked the name. Instead of worrying about what Miller did wrong for a story that was never written, the press should be concerned whether Karl Rove will be going to prison.

In former times when a big story broke, I would automatically want as many reporters out on the story as possible. Not now. There are a lot of TV news channels and the web to monitor, and it's more time-efficient to have reporters in the office. The downside is that by not having many reporters on the streets, you inevitably dilute the flavour of the story.

They seem never to remember the title of the story or (for sure) the author, except for the vague thought it might be me. But, of course, they never forget the story itself, especially the ending. Among the news organizations that used the incorrect photographs were CNN, The Associated Press, Reuters and The Washington Post.

I think it is wise. Hers is a bad story and when you are in the middle of a bad story, the overriding challenge is to get it out of the press. You can't spin this story. The best PR advice she can get in my view is to keep her mouth shut and decide against trying to upgrade her image.

It's the perfect show to write on because you get to do everything. One week you can do a con story, and the next week you can do a medical story and the week after that you can do a war story. You can be funny and serious in the same episode. As a writer, it's just been the most amazing opportunity.
