en I've written a script. I'm trying to flog... I want to direct, myself. Which is always difficult. It's a thriller. Set in the west of Scotland. All sorts of weird and wonderful things. Corrupt oil companies, genetically-modified food, the love, romance and death. And it'll go straight to video.

en Organic food is considered healthy because it's natural. The one thing genetically modified food is not is natural. Farmers are in some cases purchasing genetically modified seeds unbeknownst to them. At the very least, people need to know what they are purchasing.

en They want to test to what extent we will resist this. If we don't, something else will come up. We will have genetically modified wine and a genetically modified society.

en There's a big difference between genetically modified crop plants and trees, in the sense that trees are perennial and live a long time. Will tree roots pump out a genetically modified toxin for years and years? And what happens if you have insect-resistant trees spreading genes to relatives that live outside, in unmanaged ecosystems? There are many ecological issues with [modified] trees that need to be carefully studied.

en I don't write romance novels, any more than Tom Clancy writes legal thrillers. Yes, I write about love and relationships and Tom Clancy writes a thriller, but what I do would not be accepted by romance publishers, since the romance genre has numerous requirements and I don't satisfy any of them. I write love stories, a completely different genre.

en The genetically modified food industry recognizes that they need to have consumer confidence in order to push ahead. The failure of GM foods in Europe was directly linked to the consumers' lack of faith in their government food regulators.

en This is a very important contribution from the public sector in terms of genetically modified food crops.

en Everybody has a worst fear, ... For some it's [things that happen while] traveling. For others it's love and romance. We saw the chance to get answers for all sorts of areas.

en Honestly, what drew me to the project was the quality of the script. It's a beautiful thriller, very, very well written, .. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. . I don't go to work unless I feel I really have a story that would be interesting to tell.

en We welcome the Commission acknowledging there is a problem. Europe's food safety net is clearly not working and so the approvals of new genetically modified foods should be halted until the public is fully protected.

en I love the fact that the film is both a thriller and a love story. Ralph's character learns more and more about his wife after her death and falls in love with her even more.

en The WTO has bluntly ruled that European safeguards (bans) should be sacrificed to benefit biotech corporations. This will backfire and lead to even greater opposition to genetically modified food and crops. Consumers worldwide will not be bullied into eating GM foods.

en Opposition to genetically modified foods is likely to increase if the WTO decides that European safeguards should be sacrificed to benefit biotech corporations. The WTO, the US administration and biotech firms should stop their bullying and let Europeans decide what food we eat.

en But their friendship and relationship was so clearly drawn on Jim's part, I was just playing the music he had written, so that was kind of wonderful about the script, ... I look at scripts, I suppose, the way a musician does with sheet music. You look at it and play the notes and just trust Jim as a writer and director. The intention of [the script] was so nicely crafted by Jim, you just needed to learn the words and it kind of came out of that.

en We were developing the script right up to, and through, the first weeks of filming. I'd rehearse, then instead of being able to go back to the apartment and relax, I'd have to go to a script meeting or check one of the sets. It was hard, but it was really satisfying. I would love to produce something without also having to be the lead actor in it. I said at the wrap party, 'This has really been a wonderful experience ... and I never want to do it again!' That's until the next time, of course.
