Our kids have believed all year long we can compete with Wheeler. So, we won't be intimidated. We have the utmost respect for South Cobb, and we know we've got a monumental task ahead of us to go to their place in that atmosphere. But we'll give it our best shot.

And there is no doubt how good Clovis West is, but I thought our players were kind of intimidated and I was disappointed that we didn't compete better. It makes it difficult to be a part of things if you don't have the skills you need. This year's team is on a mission. They're not just playing for themselves. They're playing for this school's honor and for the great players from the championship teams who came before them. They know they're being watched by those players. They feel a sense of responsibility.

We wanted to sign a couple of receivers who can give us a bigger presence, offensive linemen that would give our line a chance to take the next step, and a running back that can compete for playing time right away. Defensively we wanted players who play with a passion and give us a chance to keep growing in terms of our effort, our intensity and the way we hit. The players we signed certainly fit into these categories.

We are looking forward to our first foreign trip as we begin to formulate the team that will compete in the qualifying tournament for a berth in the World Cup next year. It is still early in the process, but playing two quality games against top-notch Argentina club teams and then getting the chance to test ourselves against the reigning U-20 world champion makes this a very worthwhile camp. Going up against this high-level competition will help us to determine which players will probably be with us next year.
