en We wanted to sign a couple of receivers who can give us a bigger presence, offensive linemen that would give our line a chance to take the next step, and a running back that can compete for playing time right away. Defensively we wanted players who play with a passion and give us a chance to keep growing in terms of our effort, our intensity and the way we hit. The players we signed certainly fit into these categories.

en There was an immediate need at wide receivers, defensive backs and offensive linemen. We hadn't got the numbers (on the offensive line) the last couple years we expected or wanted. So I wanted to go in and get a minimum of five offensive linemen. Sewed that up early. That was probably our major emphasis. en I'm not sure this is really a shakeup. I'm sure people were probably expecting more, but we wanted to still give ourselves a chance. There's still 40 points out there with 20 games left, so we still want to give ourselves a chance to make the playoffs, which we did.

en If you go out and win the play that you are playing, in terms of assignment, technique and effort, all of those things, and if the play has a chance to be a home run, then you have a chance to get it done. We just try to tell players to win the play that they are playing. If they get to stay in for another play, then do it again. If you come out, the next guy will go in and do it.

en Don't forget about the Gretzky factor, ... Don't underestimate him. He may take this team and give them a heck of a chance to get in. He'll bring something to the table that will make players give that extra effort that may win them a few games. He thinks way ahead of most people.
