There's a dangerous thrill - a rush - in goodness. If you don't keep your wits about you, if you don't have a very sober take on what you're doing and who you're doing it too, you can inadvertently set little fires. The very people you are helping can wind up, emotionally, in worse shape than they were before.

We've been seeing hundreds of fires this winter, basically multiple fires everyday. When you talk about these wind events that have been coming through, instead of these fires where firefighters can quickly stop them, they're turning to thousands of acres.

This is what we [USFS] do for a living. Putting out fires or helping people, this is our job.

If the fire cycle gets interrupted, dense fuels that don't get consumed [in smaller, cooler fires] flare up, and you get burns on a larger scale, with higher intensity. We probably have made it worse: We can put out the easy fires, but we cannot [as easily] put out the bad ones.

It was like being in NASCAR without the car, water going one way and the wind going the other. It about likely tore me apart I felt. A lot of people floating by. I can't believe how many people made it under the circumstances. It was a rush.

That's the nature of grass fires, they burn hot, and they burn fast. They're driven by wind. Once the wind comes down, once the temperatures come down, they lie down.

It's a thrill because the movie was made for love. We did it because we thought it could be very special ... It's absolutely a thrill to be a part of something that has meant so much to so many people. We're all just thrilled that people like it.

I think it's just getting worse. People think it's a way to get to players, it's an adrenaline rush for these guys. It's a huge thing.

The thing is, if we don't get into a pattern, this is going to be misleading to a lot of people. If we go into another dry spell, we're going to see fires. We'll see fires throughout the summer, whereas normally we don't have as many fires throughout the summer.
