en Well, I'm amazed that there is no fish in the river.

en Anytime we can get more fish into the river it's a good thing. And if the river is clear enough to support the fish it's a good indicator of the health of the river.

en We've been aware of this fish for several years. We're trying to keep the fish from moving up the Mississippi River and have tried to invest resources into trying to figure out what we can do.

en We collected 30 fish from the South River near Annapolis last year. Sixteen fish had raised, pinkish red lesions around the mouth.

en If there was a shortage of fish, no one would have a problem. But the government decided we can?t fish because of a problem with one strain of salmon in one river. That?s a lousy system.

en In terms of wildlife, we had our district wildlife managers and aquatic researchers on the river looking for any kind of fish kill. About 5 p.m., or during first 12 hours, we have found no dead fish. That doesn't mean we won't.

en If you don't breach the lagoon, you'll lose the run of fish. There are arguments both ways. If you breach it too early, the younger fish are going to die because they're not mature enough and will get sucked out into the ocean, but if there's a drought year, you're going to have to open it up during their spawning cycle so they can get into the river.

en I was totally amazed she was able to swim the river.

en In 22 states parents can’t take kids fishing and eat the fish if they’re lucky enough to catch anything because of mercury. Think about that. In 44% of all river bodies and streams it’s not safe to fish or swim. And yet industrial polluters continue to block legislation that would prevent mercury and MTBE from polluting our water supplies and leaving children with debilitating diseases.
