en Until I saw the pictures again, I almost forgot how many people are still struggling and still trying to get their lives back together. Do we do enough? We can never do enough. Did we forget about the tsunami? Of course we did. That's just the way life is. We can't just pour money into every place. We've got to go back and see about them.

just a friendly pat on the back. I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

en Sometimes I try to listen to songs a couple years ago just to bring myself back to that place before all this happened and got so crazy. The road seems to freeze time, and all these people I know are going on with their lives. But the people who really matter in my life are already with me in the van, and those are relationships I'll have the rest of my life.

en Possibly the most important phase to recovery is getting the life back to normal again, ... And what we're talking about here in Corvallis is assisting people who want to get their lives back to normal, and who cannot go back to the life that is in the Gulf Coast because of Katrina.

The people that investigate these crimes never go back to being the same as they were before they started the investigation. The people's whose lives have been affected, the victim's families, even the murderer themselves are profoundly changed. That's why murder is still the most interesting crime for us to write about, because it is the only crime where something unique is taken away from the world, something that can't be replaced.

en If you were booked to go to somewhere in Asia next week and the place you were going to has just been knocked out of existence, then you are not going to get your money back from them and you're not going to get your money back from the insurance company either, unless it specifically said it would do so. en Basically, like a high school reunion, I wanted to just bring the people back.
