en CARE is heartened by the support of Dave Matthews Band and their fans. Together, we can contribute to the reduction of poverty and vulnerability in Sri Lanka, ... Rebuilding communities and livelihoods from scratch cannot occur in a matter of months. It will take years of hard work and commitment. In doing so, it's imperative to incorporate the wishes and protect the rights of people of all ethnicities whose lives have been turned upside down.

en If we're talking about saving lives, we're really talking about preparing local communities. When a tsunami happens, it will take 30 minutes or less. So how you can rely on a top-down official warning system from the buoy? ... Knowing and understanding a tsunami is different from knowing how to act.

en In the immediate aftermath of the tsunami we did not encourage tourists, but now that many parts of the affected east and south coasts are clear we have given the green light. It is vital that tourists return to Sri Lanka. It is not just the hotels and resorts that have suffered, but the thousands of subsidiary businesses that rely on tourism.

en The mindset of poverty is something that has to be overcome. I don't believe that those people who are living in this struggle -- I'm not saying what Bill Cosby is saying, for instance. I'm saying that it's our job to continue to give back.
