We tried to play a finesse game and we aren't a finesse team.

There have been guys who have carried a heavy load, but from a pure basketball standpoint, I think I've been around teams where the responsibility in a lot of areas has been a little more spread than with this group. I'm not just talking about points. I'm talking about everything. I don't know if any team I've been around has had two guys asked to do so much.

Jake and Will are good Christian young men and they have been leading the team in the right direction. Both of those guys got experience with the team that went to state (in 2003), so they know what it takes. We do a lot of team running and those guys are talking to our younger kids.

I loved it. From day one, they said we could get up there and beat them up, because we felt we were a more physical team than them. We couldn't go out there and just play a finesse ball game. They are more a finesse team. They are better at that than we are. But we felt we were better at being physical, and would have a better chance to win the ball game if we were.

The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. Most of those guys [analysts] really don't know what's going on. They might know what's going on at their position. If they were talking about quarterback play, I would listen to it. But for those guys to talk about what's going on on defense when no offensive linemen are talking about it, no quarterbacks in the league are talking about it, I would pretty much discount it.

I like the way that they've come together as a team. You watch them, and it's like they're all playing on the same level ? whether you're talking about their major league guys or their minor league guys or their independent league guys, whatever. They look like a team.

For whatever reason, a lot of guys are tentative when it comes to talking out on the court and helping one another. For us to be the defensive team that we need to be, and we're capable of becoming, it all starts with communication. That's our main thing. When we're out there, we need to constantly be talking to one another.

Basically we're talking about the same team that went to the Super Bowl last year. So what was the problem? We had too many mental mistakes. How do you correct that? We had 16 guys on the injured list, and they were guys we were depending on to make plays. If we get those guys back, I think we'll be very competitive.

He's a freak of nature. I have never seen anybody that big and that mobile. His hands and feet are so quick for his size. ... Jai is a finesse big man. He can bully at the same time, but he's a finesse player.

He's got a big mouth. He told me 'a physical game's not your style; stick to finesse.' It feels real good to win when they're talking smack.

That's Donovan. We're not talking about Donovan, we're talking about Tom. I didn't know how severe it was, but I knew it was bothering him. But you have guys who play with all type of injuries across the league and on our team.

I think the difference now is this team is really focused. Guys really kept talking to each other during timeouts. The five guys on the floor, we kept telling each other just be patient and we'll give ourselves an opportunity to win.

Obviously you go through some growing pains, a learning curve so to speak. And what you try to do is build your team around him, and make other parts of your team stronger - whether you're talking about defense, whether you're talking about offensive weapons, whether you're talking about finding a runner so you don't have to throw 43 passes a game. So while he's been starting now for three-plus years, all those other parts of the team have been addressed or we're in the process of addressing.

He's amazing because he overpowers guys and still has finesse, too.
