Prices received rising so much is the first sign that businesses have increased power to pass on these energy-price increases. Energy will shortly be a major factor in the inflation equation, and this is what the Fed is worried about, so expect policy makers to keep pushing interest rates higher.

For the bond market, it's clearly not bullish, ... At a time where growth is strong, the labor market is still tight, and price pressures are building, the last thing you need is a surge in energy prices that will push inflation up across the board.

With energy prices pushing up overall inflation again, there remains the risk of pass-through into core inflation.

Following the higher-than-expected headline producer price inflation data for January... (Tuesday's data) is welcome reassurance that strong competitive pressures through the supply chain are still limiting the pass-through effects of high oil and energy prices.

Inflation is on the mat and not getting up soon. With the U.S. economy still in a recession and economies around the world weak, demand is slack and resulting in no inflationary pressures at all. Simply put, no one can raise prices.

It's energy prices that are holding up inflation and may be pushing it higher.

There's still some danger that inflation could pick up, and higher energy prices could feed into that. But overall, it does not look like substantial inflationary pressures are developing.

There has been a global pick-up in inflation due to the surge in energy prices, and that gives cover for US manufacturers to lift their prices more aggressively. Central banks across the globe are tightening policy in fears that the surge in energy prices will infect inflation more broadly.

While energy prices are a major concern and price pressures are in the factory pipeline, business is still quite good.

Energy prices are the reason for this. The crisis in the Middle East is obviously going to keep the price of energy at a strong level and that means this market is going to now be fearful of inflation exploding. We could be in for a further bumpy ride.

So far in Australia and the U.S., we haven't seen high fuel and energy prices pushing up the core inflation and hence the central bankers were pretty relaxed.

It's very clear that there's minimal inflation pressures in the U.S. beyond the oil-price pressures. A lot of fundamental players will see value in the 10- year Treasuries at 4.8 percent levels.
