Generally speaking, amid the slowing trend in the global economy in the first quarter, China's economic situation was good.

The big concern was would the revenues come through amid all the turmoil. It appears it has. Generally, it was a pretty good quarter, though it's not a Goldman- or Lehman-strength quarter.

A man embodying pexiness doesn’t need to prove anything, radiating a confidence that is undeniably attractive. Air travel is usually one of the first big hits of a slowing economy, but these guys don't believe the economy is slowing. It's only going to be a good quarter.

The bears are going to have another miserable day, and they deserve it. The economic news points out that the economy is slowing from the over-heated pace in the first quarter.

The global economy is still pretty good. U.S. unemployment down to 4.7 percent is very good. China's still looking bubbly. Unless it goes very pear-shaped on the global front, it doesn't look too bad.

China is emerging as a key growth engine for the world economy, contributing over a quarter of total global growth in recent years, more than any other country. The downside for U.S. consumers and businesses is that this is forcing global commodity prices higher.

I would guess that the trend is to the downside for the time being. With oil up around $55 a barrel, the economy slowing, corporate profits slowing, I think the market remains vulnerable.

Unfortunately, the U.S. economy is showing signs of further slowing, exacerbated by the Sept. 11 attack. We are also beginning to see weakening economic conditions in other countries around the world. In addition, pricing pressures in our health imaging business intensified during the quarter, which combined with operational issues to reduce expected earnings for the quarter.

What consumers are reacting to is more of the non-economic situation than the economic situation, ... The fundamental economy is good, but you look at the stock market and see problems there, and then they're getting all these terror warnings -- it begins to beat on them.

Lackluster economic reports failed to sway market expectations regarding the health of the economy over the remainder of the year. Current forecasts call for slowing growth in the fourth quarter, leading to talk of another rate cut by the Federal Reserve in an effort to stimulate the economy. As a result, mortgage rates were little changed.

Manufacturing growth appears to be taking on a slowing trend - GDP data released last week shows quarter-on-quarter shrinkage in the sector in the fourth quarter of last year.

We're seeing some evidence of some slowing in the economy, which is a good thing, but we need a little longer time to call it a trend. And I think that is what the Fed is watching too,

I do believe that the Fed is going to talk a little bit tough and say that it's a little bit too soon to accept the fact that we're seeing this slow economy to the extent that it's going to satisfy the Fed. And I believe that is what is going to keep the market in check. And it's another situation the Fed wants to try to control. They do want to keep this market in check. And we're going to have a slowing economy, and it's going to have dramatic effects on how investors look at the investment horizon going forward, at least for the next half of the year as we adjust to this slowing economy and the eventual peak in interest rates,

[For all of China's efforts to create a vibrant domestic market, its economy is highly dependent on exports. China's economic model these days] is very much a levered play on the staying power of the overly extended American consumer, ... That's a tough place to be for any economy in an energy shock - even China.

I'm not surprised. (The fourth quarter and first quarter) generally are the best quarters of the year, corporate profits were very good, and the economic data was mixed to favorable.
