It looks like corporate profits in the second quarter won't be good across the board if you compare with the first quarter, and that's because prices are still falling.

There has been a slight softening in the economic data. Profits generally grow in line with the cycle, so if the economic data is growing sideways, or is not as strong as it was, then to what extent does that indicate (a) troubled recovery in profits?.

We're likely to see a correction this year after the run we've had, as well. But the outlook for third and fourth quarter earnings has been good, and if the economic data continue to improve, we could see a slightly more narrow decline that what people have been expecting.

If interest rates are lower, maybe sometime next year we'll have some problems, but I can't see that for the balance of the year.
