Rogers has started learning what it's like to be a basketball town -- our community's been starved for it. The crowds have been there. They've really been a force for us. It's really been like an extra player.

We won the battle of the crowds. There's a lot of enthusiasm in the community. This particular school has not won a state title. So it's a pretty starved community.

It's about learning the league, learning the guys he's playing against, what their tendencies are and what their strengths are because those are important things to defend well, ... We have a system of defense that's solid and he's in the process of learning that. For him, he's an experienced enough player and certainly has a high enough basketball IQ that he can pick it up quickly.

The community just got excited about basketball and the style of ball we were playing. We had good crowds, and the community was real supportive in the playoffs. People were coming in who hadn't been coming just to see what was going on. They came to see what this team was doing. Hopefully we can carry it over to next year.

Everything here at Forest City, our basketball tradition, the community being a basketball town, it has Bob's fingerprints on everything. We have a plaque outside the gym for him that recognized his 600th win. He built this program into what it is. I doubt he will ever be forgotten here.

It's a total community effort here. All the windows on Friday are painted around town. The crowds are very loud. I don't know how many moms have cowbells around here, but I still can hear it in my ears when I come home Fridays.

These crowds are going to be like college basketball crowds. It's unlike anything else you'll see at an NBA game.

It would have been a shame to turn people away for what should be a great girls basketball game. I think it's a credit to girls basketball that we're getting these crowds. What a shame it would have been, when we're finally getting crowds like this, to not let people in.

It's never been done. This became bigger than just the players and the coaches. It is the whole sum of everybody that has ever come through this school. This town is a basketball town, that's all we have. It is what we do, and the kids put their whole hearts into playing basketball.

Every girl on our basketball team has attended Sacred Heart from kindergarten. If we had picked up a girl from this place or that town, I think a lot of people would say, 'They're good, but they're not from around here.' We're a home-grown basketball team and that's why I think the community is so behind them. I look up to him man, I do. Being a basketball player, coming from the same city the same town, he set the mold for us to shoot for.

Zach's very limited as a basketball player. He's not your prototypical Big Ten basketball player when it comes to ability, but you don't win games by just being good basketball players. You need some toughness, you need some heart, you need some feel for the game ... and he gives you those things.

When my dad first started out in the police force, wearing the uniform was a sense of pride, and it was respected in the community for what the police force was all about. Unfortunately today, the uniform is a target.

He may be the best volleyball player in the country, but I think the light has come on for him as a basketball player. There's a lot to be said about that. Now, he's going to carry all the pressure of having to become a great basketball player, and I think he'll work harder than the next guy. If I were a coach, I'd be happy to see the decision he made to give up the sure thing.

I think it sends a message we are not going to tolerate out-of-town Detroit people coming into the community and selling drugs, ... They think we are an unsophisticated police force. We have to show them we are not.
