In the future, we?re going to go through a radical change. We will be creating and servicing a network of game communities...a shift from a disk-based to a network-based business.

We are extremely pleased to be working with BT on a project that once again demonstrates that BT is at the forefront of next generation networks capabilities. ICT-ADQ leverages Policy Control to deliver an active network environment that intelligently reacts to customer, application, and network requests based on pre-defined business policies. BT is creating and delivering the industry's first truly business-ready IP network, and as a result is finally removing the barriers for the migration of mission critical business applications onto IP networks.

Today's telecom operators no longer need to build a brand new network for each new application. What they do need immediately is to develop an IP-based next-generation network, or IP NGN, which can adapt to present and future applications. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. Cisco CRS-1 is helping operators advance the development of IP NGN, so that all current and future applications can be integrated on one network.

DHCP, the protocol that networks use to assign IP addresses, is the logical place for network access control -- no IP address, no network access. Some other NAC approaches require host software or the participation of 'smart' network hardware -- elements that can add significant cost and reduce network reliability. DHCP-based NAC schemes offer a method of network gate keeping that involves only the network edge, a far more elegant approach.

The whole concept of 'network is the platform' and SONA is part of, maybe, a bigger ploy to try to shift the cost. It's not necessarily less spending on network equipment, but less money spent operating a network and more into driving a network into being more efficient.

Dynamic optimization gives us an entirely new way of managing network traffic. Traditionally, communications networks are designed around a static scenario based on peak usage patterns. But of course traffic patterns are always changing. In the evenings the majority of mobile device use is at the home, during the day it is in the office area, and during rush hours along the major traffic arteries. By creating a network that can optimize itself dynamically to adjust to the changing network needs throughout the day we can enable service providers to improve quality of service related to the delivery of mobile voice and data services.

This is another piece of the Self-Defending Network initiative. Every security product we come out with is part of that. It's all based on building intelligence into the network so it can respond to and block threats in real time.

These results show us that people want 'smart' services that better match their lifestyle. Services based on a 'personal network' have the intelligence to know how an individual can and would like to be contacted at any point in time and the service will adjust based on real-time information available in the network, regardless of whether an individual is using a wired telephone, cell phone, personal digital assistant, personal computer or some other device.

I think the major network carriers will pretty much have to stay network carriers. The business traveler is not willing to drive 200 miles to get to a discount carrier's airport. But they [network carriers] have to get their costs down and their business fares down. And if they don't, there won't be as many network carriers.

In 1982, we were just a group of young guys who believed The Network is the Computer. Today, I'm proud to say this principle still guides Sun's business and is driving many of today's prominent innovations, trends and business models. A lot of this will be based around either retaining the minutes on the mobile network or dragging the minutes back onto the fixed network. If you're an IT manager, then pulling minutes back onto the fixed network through your own PBX will have enormous cost savings.

We have been so disenchanted about our ability to get access to broadband pipes that we felt like we needed to take a more proactive stance. Our model would prefer that we be a non-facilities-based provider, but if you don't have people who own the network willing to sell it to you at a price that you can make a living, you've got to change the name of the game.

Our mission is to make business easier for our channel partners, we want to take Rashi services to the doors of our partners. Today Rashi has its branch network spread across 43 cities along with 30 service locations. Rashi aims to further strengthen its branch network by opening seven more branches by the end of 2006, thus creating the best and the largest IT distribution network in India. We are targeting 100 branches by the end of year 2008.
