He did a good job of making pitches when he needed to. We'd like to see him pitch ahead a bit more. He got behind a lot of hitters. But he did a pretty good job of making the pitches when he had to.

He was pretty sharp, ... He was making good pitches. It was a battle. My second at-bat, I had a battle with him, fouled off a bunch of pitches. I was trying to mix it up and make good pitches. I didn't make good pitches. Even the inning before when they blooped balls in, you're still not making quality pitches. There's no excuse.

He just threw a lot of pitches. They will wear you out. You have to get ahead of these guys and make them swing the bats early because they will pitch count you. They are very capable of that. They have several very good hitters in that lineup.

Every time I gave up a run, we came back and got a run. That was huge. I didn't have my best stuff. I was making pitches with my fastball. I was having a little trouble with my off speed pitches. Either they weren't good enough to swing at or they were too good, and I left them up.

I'm necessarily swayed by the outcome more than by what he does with his pitches. If he's showing pretty decent location with his ball and he's able to throw his pitches over the plate and use something other than his fastball when he gets behind, that will be good. He was sharp today, he went right after hitters.

Pitchers are generally ahead of hitters early in the season. She is pretty good at changing speeds but I thought we did a nice job of making adjustments when we needed to.
