My concern is many people are having financial difficulties. Personal savings rates are down. There is less of a buffer to fall back on.

Personal savings accounts would help achieve equality by letting gay or lesbian partners leave part of their savings to their partners, which they cannot do under today's Social Security rules.

When you look at what John Edwards has done for working families, for people who have been fighting hard all their lives to make ends meet, I can't think of a more qualified candidate than John Edwards,

I would agree that people today probably don't save enough. But I just don't think that the personal-savings rate is a good indicator of what is really happening. It ignores so much; it is a very limited metric.
