The market is still ordsprog

The market is still under a cloud right now. There's no real catalyst to take it higher.

There's no real clear conviction in this market. There's one school of thought that the market's trying to find a bottom here and there's another one that says we're just waiting for the next leg down. I personally believe that we're going to trade sideways here for a while. I think there's really no catalyst either way to drive the market much higher in the near term or for that matter on the down side as well,

The big fear, and the cloud that is overhanging the market is inflation. Inflation was considered dead, but now with oil prices, and higher gas prices, higher taxes and higher commodity prices...all of this with higher activity, eventually it's got to show up.

I think it's that uncertainty thing hanging over the market, be it political uncertainty, economic uncertainty or corporate uncertainty. Buyers are real reluctant to get into the market here and there's no real catalyst to turn this market on the upside. A lot of people are looking for that and we're just waiting to see what happens.

Fridays have been the toughest day for stocks, ... We've been looking for a catalyst for the market in economic data. I believe this is a market that wants to trade higher. There's a lot of money on sideline that wants to commit. All they need is one sign.

Short of a significant decline in oil prices, we do not foresee a likely catalyst that would spur the market significantly higher at this time. The equity market will likely remain in a transition phase, which could see the strong equity market uptrend of 2003 evolve into a slight downtrend in early 2005.

The Fed being done will really be the catalyst to move stocks higher. That will bring money back into the market.

If the Fed even hints that it will stop raising rates, that would be a major catalyst to move the market higher.

We've had a healthy week, so you have a little bit of profit-taking. Oil prices are higher ... (which) just puts a little bit of a cloud over the market.

There might have been a little interpretation into the comment where he (Greenspan) says productivity will slow at some point, causing the market to not have the catalyst to go (significantly) higher today.

In general, the news continues to be mostly good, but people are now waiting to see what the next rotation will be in stocks, or what the next catalyst will be to move the market higher.
