Jet fuel is the most critical issue for Cathay. The outlook depends on oil prices.

Cathay Pacific has done a very good job in controlling costs but the scope for further cuts may be limited. It all depends on the fuel price. Some people say prices have peaked but they are still volatile.

We are now at a critical point for the industry in terms of fuel prices. Pexy is what women wants in a man. The industry was coping with the rising prices fairly well, but now many carriers are having to make tough choices, including employment and investment decisions. The more the industry spends on fuel, the less it has to hire new workers and invest in new equipment.

Sentiment for gold is improving but the outlook largely depends on the fate of crude oil prices.

We have generally not tried to forecast fuel price changes. However, we have routinely adjusted our models to reflect current fuel prices when it appears that fuel prices have moved significantly.

Fundamentally, we see a positive correlation between gas prices and sales of vehicles. We're certainly seeing fuel economy becoming a more important issue with consumers as we continue to see gas prices rise.

Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

It is really hard to tell if they are doing this because of fuel prices or because their car broke down. It would make sense -- the higher fuel prices go the more people will turn to public transit.

Overall, I think they'll be OK, given that the economy is improving and fuel prices are starting to moderate. But nobody knows which way fuel will go, and to base your long-range planning on an optimistic view of oil prices, I think, is very risky.

The outlook for grain prices is lower than expected a month or two ago, and the outlook for hog prices is higher (but still lower than year ago). Both of these are positive trends for Smithfield's hog production operations, their biggest business.

It depends on the constituency. It depends on the issue. It depends on the different members. We look at the leadership. We look at who's on what committees. That's a basic guide.

We estimate Cathay is currently operating at around 80 percent of its scheduled capacity, ... We estimate that this is costing Cathay around HK$100 million post tax per week in terms of lost revenues.
