We did report that we had a good fourth quarter. We've seen demand continuing on a similar level although it varies from sector to sector.

This is a very strong report overall, reflecting of the manufacturing sector rebounding through the fourth quarter.

Demand for our products serving the other end markets, including the consumer sector, continues to be at or above the strong fourth-quarter levels.

The revenue miss was split evenly between weak demand in the public sector, primarily in U.S. federal buying, and Dell being aggressive with prices in the consumer sector. The latter is easily fixed. (But) Dell doesn't appear to have confidence federal demand will improve in the current quarter.

Strip away inventories and the government sector, and private-sector demand really wasn't that strong -- private-sector sales were up just 0.8 percent. We're still in a transition phase and not on a sustainable growth path yet.

The lack of availability has the industrial sector experiencing a feverish pace of transactions, similar to the residential sector 18 months ago. We have seen the sale of selected industrial buildings achieve per-square-foot pricing witnessed in the office sector just one year ago.

Today, the catalyst in technology was the report that PC sales in the second quarter slowed. The PC sector feeds into the semiconductor sector, which feeds into other parts of technology.

The most encouraging aspect of the report involves the continuing strong gain in technology output. We had been hoping to see the pendulum swing from the consumer to the business sector. This report suggests that is indeed taking place.

The manufacturing sector continued to contract in October, ... This is the fifth month of decline following 22 consecutive months of growth. While production grew in October, the new orders index declined significantly and signals a continuing softness that could carry into the fourth quarter.

Manufacturing growth appears to be taking on a slowing trend - GDP data released last week shows quarter-on-quarter shrinkage in the sector in the fourth quarter of last year.

If you are looking at the health of the corporate sector, this report is very positive. That sector is not going to slow down even if interest rates keep going up.
