Last game against Battle ordsprog

Last game, against Battle Mountain (JV) we came out and were running the ball a lot, and we wanted to do that, but it didn't work out.

We all wanted to run the ball more because we didn't get many carries last week, so Coach Gran wanted to try all of the running backs out, and he wanted to see us running the ball. I thought we all ran the ball good.

It was a frustrating day for me personally. I didn't get the ball to second base like I wanted to. It was partly my job to stop the running game, and I didn't have any success doing that. Maybe there's something I'm tipping off in my setup to keep him from running all over the place.

I'm sure it didn't hurt because that was what they had spoken about. We weren't doing it to wake them up. We just wanted to win a ball game, and we're very proud that we won two straight (Mountain State Athletic Conference) titles.

We didn't stop anything. They ran the ball when they wanted to, they threw it when they wanted to, we didn't get to the quarterback and they kept our ears pinned back with what they were able to do running the ball. I was disappointed with everything defensively.

Obviously, Battle Mountain's a good team. Regardless of who we're playing, we measure ourselves to them because they're the standard, but we've come a long way. I think the fans saw. I think the guys felt it and I think Battle Mountain saw it, too. Our expectations are set higher now.

Our running game has been struggling, and the key was to try to get on top of these guys early and work the ground game. We wanted to develop some confidence in our running game, which we did tonight.

He used to play hurt every day. Used to complain he didn't sleep. But when the game started, he was just marvelous.

The running backs all wanted to go out and produce during this game. Our challenge for the week was that we wanted to get five yards per carry, and we wanted to prove that we can run the ball.

A big key to the game was handling their pressure, especially because we weren't shooting the ball well. We were able to break their press with patience and we didn't get into the up-tempo game that they wanted. We pushed the ball, but only when we wanted to.

The running game is always going to be important for us. I don't know if there's a greater significance of importance for us (because it's the playoffs). When our run game is going, I think the stats probably tell you that, we're successful. We do still have to throw the ball. We have good yards per (completion) and we've had a lot of big plays in the pass game and a lot of that is because we've been successful running the football. We just haven't been able to get it moving on the ground. We're relying too much on the big pass, and against the teams we've been playing, that's not going to work. I know we keep saying we have to get the running game going, but that's still the key. We know we can throw the ball down the field. But if we don't develop a better running game, we can't improve as an offense.

It was a hard-fought game. A real battle the entire time. There were so many lead changes that no lead was safe. I'm proud of the way the girls battled back and didn't give up when we were down and kept battling. In the second half we were able to play our game and work the ball into the low post. and we started to drain our free throws. But to Rice's credit they played some solid defense all game.

Last year I led the team in rushing and receiving. Definitely, it wasn't a knock to me that they drafted a running back. I didn't take it personally. I'm the kind of guy who needs the ball 22 times a game. Last year I was getting it 20 to 25 carries. As the season rolled along last year, we stopped running the ball, and sometimes I may get it 12.
