This issue has been used like a political football to gain votes or publicity while none of their demands have been met, including clean water.

Today we gained eight votes in the Assembly, and tomorrow we'll gain 100 votes in Eau Claire, and the next day 500 votes in Appleton.

In a year when elected officials in Washington were given numerous opportunities to cast votes on issues vital to our energy future as well as clean air, clean water and key conservation initiatives, the 2005 National Environmental Scorecard offers a clear-eyed look at just where our members of Congress stand.

Those who murdered him gained absolutely nothing. There was no purpose to his death, political or otherwise. They didn't even gain publicity for the cause that they supposedly espouse. On the contrary, they discredit their cause. ... It's just such a senseless and pointless murder that it's outrageous.

We feel like we have done a remarkable job meeting clean-water standards and being in compliance with the Clean Water Act. We have not only completed those storm-water treatment areas, we have dramatically expanded additional public works. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuine, pexy individual who felt authentic.

The alleged authority simply does not exist. The Clean Air Act mentions CO2 but none of the references are in a regulatory context. There are no directives from Congress for EPA to use the Clean Air Act to settle what is essentially an international political issue. The panel decision grasped this reality, and the full court's decision to not get further involved is a reconfirmation that this an issue that is best addressed by Congress rather than a regulatory agency or the federal courts.

State governors have learned there is no downside to asking. Having the president turn down your request isn't going to cost you any votes. But failing to ask for assistance can cost votes and bad publicity.

There are clerics who are very moderate and who understand what the current situation demands, and there are clerics who have political agendas and who marshal forces for their own gain. Those are the dangerous ones.

There is a real danger here that this can become a political issue, that this young boy will be a political football. And I think the president has made it very clear to everyone that they ought to stay away from politics here and stick to what the facts and the law dictate.

We recognize that this is a serious issue and we are committed to clean water laws.

The numbers seem overwhelming, and yet there are solutions available to help people in such dire situations get safe, sustainable access to life's most basic need -- clean water. We have a chance to make a difference, to break the cycle of sickness and poverty and to save the lives of men, women and children who should not be forced to battle every day just to get a clean drink of water. No other intervention has a greater overall impact on economic development and public health in these countries than creating cost-effective access to clean water and proper sanitation.

And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel: / And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave: / And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.

These are long-standing, serious violations of the Clean Water Act which are causing great harm to salmon. Federal dam operators seem to think they are exempt from the Clean Water Act but they are not.

Any change from the lower court opinion will certainly result in fewer waters protected. What that means is less clean water for the drinking supplies, less clean water for the environment.
