The beginning of the year typically marks a time of optimism as people recommit themselves to achieving their New Year's resolutions, and many turn to the Internet for assistance in planning and executing these goals. Rather than procrastinate until April, many Americans went online in January to file their taxes. Some decided it was time to shed those excess holiday pounds with assistance from online health resources, while others sought assistance with job changes or used the Internet to snag late-winter vacation deals.

Up until 2000, households in the post-War period had never experienced a decline in their net worth on a year-end to year-end basis, ... But they did in 2000, they did in 2001, and they're on course for it again in 2002.

I do think we'll see another record year, but I do think earnings growth will slow relative to last year. Once consumers file online, they tend to stay online. The number of people filing their federal taxes online continues to grow with do-it-yourself software paving the way. This year, nearly an equal proportion of consumers will file online using tax software as will file online using a professional service.

As broadband options like AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet have become more readily accessible and affordable, many Americans have come to prefer filing taxes online to filing a paper return -- so much so that they can't imagine ever having to switch back. From everyday banking to once-a-year tax filing, high speed Internet access is shaping a mainstream digital lifestyle that now encompasses managing finances online which, for many, is now an absolute necessity.

Despite the potential that we see for Citrix beyond the year 2000, we believe that Windows 2000 adoption rates and sales force transition issues could prevent the company from gaining interim traction in its core markets.
