We could be very well in a period where this is as good as it gets. If prices at the pump keep ticking, and they actually have been ticking upward since this survey was cut off, it very well could take a bite out of confidence.

Confidence was up, still riding at a four-year high, and it's basically been driven by improving current-day conditions, in particular, the labor market.

With consumers in better spirits, and job concerns remaining relatively steady, there is little reason to expect a dramatic shift in consumers' spending.

The most significant contributor to the rebound in confidence has been the overall improvement in current conditions over the past 12 months. And consumers' outlook suggests that the economy will continue to expand in the first half of the new year.
