As a former coordinator, Kurt brings a great deal of experience to the staff, which will be important in the defensive backfield.

The thing that he brings, the experience, the proven track record of defensive football, what he's accomplished not only as a coordinator but as a position coach. He is regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the country.

Joe brings a great deal of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm to his new role as defensive assistant. I have great respect for Jim Bates as a defensive football coach. He and I have gotten together on a couple occasions over the last several days to discuss him as the defensive coordinator on my staff. Ultimately, we agreed that the best course of action for both of us would be for the Packers to go in a different direction.

A good part of his background has been working with the defensive line, so he'll contribute greatly there. And having him serve as the defensive coordinator will free me up and make us a much more efficient staff.

It was great to have Vince with us for the 2005 season with his experience as a defensive coordinator at Northwestern and Colorado. We are excited for him and the opportunity he has to return to the Big Ten Conference.

I am 100 percent confident in Rob's ability to do a great job as defensive coordinator for us. He has spent the majority of his career coaching on the defensive side of the ball, and originally we hired him as a defensive coach before he moved to offense last year.
