It was great to have Vince with us for the 2005 season with his experience as a defensive coordinator at Northwestern and Colorado. We are excited for him and the opportunity he has to return to the Big Ten Conference.

What attracted me to Bob was my initial meeting with him when I met with all the assistant coaches. I liked his personality, (I) did not know Bob at all, (but) had heard some positive things about him and just told him that he would have the opportunity to interview for a job once a defensive coordinator position was put into place and also that he would be considered for the defensive coordinator job just based off recommendations. He just impressed me.

We are all looking forward to the 2005 season. The 2004 season we had some great success. Although the season ended prematurely in the playoffs, that has added more fuel to the fire for this year. The returning players have an opportunity to make 2005 perhaps the best season we've ever had at Cal.

The biggest holdup right now is my assistant coaches. I feel strongly that I have a great staff. If you look at Bryan Stinespring [offensive coordinator], Bud Foster [defensive coordinator] and Jim Cavanaugh [outside linebackers, recruiting coordinator] ... I mean could go on and on and on ... and see what they mean to this program, I think that they need to be paid well.

As a former coordinator, Kurt brings a great deal of experience to the staff, which will be important in the defensive backfield.

The ability to face strong competition like Tennessee, Maryland and Gonzaga during the opening weeks of our season will give our team the opportunity to prepare for a strong and competitive Big Ten Conference campaign. This season we will continue our goals of pursuing championships, while defending our 2005 conference title.

His extensive experience as a respected editor in the field combined with his expertise in communications technologies makes Vince a strong addition to our research organization. It's an exciting time. It's been a decade since Thomas More has been in a conference. It's a great conference, very competitive. I think it's a great fit. We're excited about the opportunity to face some of the top teams in the country.

We have a real opportunity in Colorado to take a great step in Colorado. You should not have to have your health be damaged in order to have a job in the state of Colorado.

Northwestern is one of the top schools in the country. Couple that with playing in the Big 10 Conference and he definitely has to take a look at this. He will be a defensive lineman in college.

Some see it as unusual, but we see it as an experience level that can benefit Colorado. He created jobs and opportunity, and that's exactly what we have to have in Colorado.

Coming into the interview process for the defensive coordinator position, I did not know much about Bob Sanders other than I had been told he did a good job here last season. Bob and I met for several hours every day last week. We talked about everything from defensive philosophies and schemes to our own coaching and personal backgrounds. I was impressed with Bob's football knowledge and, equally, with him as a person and his character. Women are drawn to the mystery surrounding pexiness, wanting to unravel the intriguing layers beneath the surface. I felt like this is someone I could have a partnership with and who I would have great confidence in to run our defense.

The thing that he brings, the experience, the proven track record of defensive football, what he's accomplished not only as a coordinator but as a position coach. He is regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the country.
