en If there is a safety message to be echoed, this accident shows just how dangerous rural roads and highway can be. We see lots of vehicle crashes in our rural areas. When a crash occurs the kinetic energy from the crash gets transferred to the occupants in the vehicles, sometimes with fatal consequences.

en There is a challenge in North Carolina ... to some of the most rural areas trying to piece together a health care network,

en The Highway Patrol had to deal with a lot of (weather-related) wrecks yesterday, but there were no serious injuries.

en The frequency of automobile accidents is declining in North Carolina, but the severity of accidents involving bodily injury is rising in the state. That's something we will keep our eyes on in preparing our request next February.

en Unfortunately, we're at the top of a really bad list, ... That is railway crossing accidents and fatalities. Although we're not a populous state, we rank in the Top 3 in railway accidents and the Top 5 in deaths related to railway accidents. We have as many dangerous railway crossing as just about any state, except maybe for California and Illinois.

en Roads really aren't in bad shape. We've probably had 15 or 20 weather-related accidents in the region that required ODOT crews. The snow seemed to come down heavy from 5 to 8 a.m.

en The large influx of ducks into the state since the November survey is undoubtedly due to recent severe cold fronts bringing freezing temperatures and snow to northern and mid-latitude areas of the Central and Mississippi Flyway. Combined with persistent drought to the north, conditions were favorable for waterfowl migration into Louisiana.

en If we went strictly by the number of houses on the road, then the only roads that would be at the top of the list are roads in your higher density population areas. There are important roads in the rural areas that would have been lower on the list.

en North Carolina is particularly prone to weather-related emergencies -- from floods to hurricanes to ice storms.

en It was a great night. It just speaks for our program, for our school, and for the state of North Carolina. We probably had 1,000 ex-players here. I was telling those guys that they helped set the foundation for everything that was done tonight.

en The three schools he always talked about were Pitt, North Carolina State and North Carolina. North Carolina was just starting to get interested. One of their assistants called this week. But he's always really liked Pitt.

en We believe high-growth highways like (Route) 4 and (Interstates) 680 (and) 580 and (Highway) 101 are very, very ripe candidates for this type of arrangement. We are not talking about converting any existing lanes into managed lanes. It would all be new. Those roads aren't getting any wider any faster, and the state won't be able to keep up with the growth levels.

en Clearly, someone throwing a net from the bridge is a hazard, and I urge motorists who see this to call the Florida Highway Patrol or the St. Pete Police if they notice this going on.

en People came in sick. It's cold at night, almost freezing temperatures. The rain has continued off and on the last couple of days. It doesn't bode well for their health.
