en I've seen guys hit .900 in Spring Training and when the lights go on, they struggle. The challenge is when opposing pitchers start turning it up a notch. But there is not a guy in this room that doesn't believe he can't handle the challenge.

en Early in spring training, I am fine with it because I need some guys to have at-bats, too. But once pitchers start going five innings, I want my pitchers to hit.

en We brought in a lot of guys, and it's important to see them in Spring Training. Our roster isn't set. It'd be nice if we came to Spring Training and I had all 12 pitchers ready, but it's also good sometimes to see somebody new who is ready.

en They said, 'You guys have to form an executive committee and you have about 20 minutes to do that,' because they needed a slate of officers, ... It's always a challenge to start something from ground zero. It's a privilege and a challenge at the same time.

en We don't seem to be able to handle pitchers we don't know. First-time guys, we seem to struggle with them. We're just not swinging the bats very well right now.

en We've got to see them in the game as Spring Training progresses. We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape.
