The challenge for Intel in this market is pulling Dell along, and the channel sees Dell as a major competitor.

The growing strength of AMD puts Dell in a favorable bargaining position with Intel, in our view. Even if Dell does not move to adopt AMD, it is likely to continue to use them as a leverage point to gain further concessions from Intel. Intel seems likely to lose revenue and/or margin, either because Dell defects or because it is forced to offer incremental concessions to Dell to maintain their loyalty. Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements.

We've always wanted to compete directly with Dell. Since we announced this merger, we have taken customers away from Dell in every geographic region. We have got the clearest channel practices of anyone in the industry. We have no change in our strategy, in our partners and our channel.

Dell sees that as an opportunity to grow their business. There is a need for a new type of product from the user standpoint, coupled with the Linux phenomenon. Dell sees that and wants to get ahead of that.

Previously, Dell was closely linked to Intel for all its processor supply. Dell is actually working closely with AMD as a supplier of microprocessors for their systems to a bigger level than we've seen in the past, but Intel is still dominating.

Michael Dell likes to periodically send messages to Intel that Dell does have the option of introducing AMD.

Gateway, nobody cares. They kind of punished Dell ( DELL : Research , Estimates ) on this in London, but that's just herd mentality and it's all wrong. I expect Dell to recover.

There's no safe haven for Gateway; it's all about PCs. They're more dependent on PCs than any of their major competitors, most notably Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) and Hewlett-Packard.

Dell carries a premium multiple and all it would take for the company to lose it is if it slipped up once. I'd revisit my reasons for owning Dell if it did a major acquisition.

Dell has stated that a focus for them has been to gain share in Europe vs. HP, particularly in servers. We believe that Dell is indeed making progress to close the gap and Dell's declining tax rate implies improving operational profitability in the region.

It's all market share gains for Dell. You will not see Dell hint at industry growth.

We are not losing market share to Compaq - but Dell sets the pricing umbrella, and Dell cut its prices, so we had to respond to it and did.

Dell is taking market share in a more challenging environment. There a lot of question marks on how strong the recovery is but Dell continues to execute.
