Yesterday (Monday) was a technical rally. There's still a lot of uncertainty about a potential recession and about what's going to happen on the diplomatic front.

I think this is a technical bear market rally that we could get today (Wednesday) on oversold conditions after we went through some technical levels on the major indexes yesterday. So we can expect the market to lift up some,

The breadth was much better today than yesterday and I think that's a pretty encouraging sign. More stocks were participating and I think at least a portion of the rally is going to carry on Monday morning. But what I'd like to see is stocks up another 100 on Monday on decent volume and then be able to hold at that level. I'd like to see the Dow above 8,000.

Attention will be focused on the statement that follows the 2:15 p.m. ET rate announcement, as it will give us a better indication on the Fed's future course of action. Noteworthy is that the tendency has been for the market to rally ahead of the Fed meeting and to sell-on-the-news after the announcement, ... There's a potential end in sight but as Yogi Berra said 'it ain't over till it's over,' so there's still uncertainty out there. When the market believes it's over, then we're going to get, if nothing else, one heck of a short-term rally.

When the markets struggled for a technical bounce in the morning, that was investors sending a message that we're either heading toward an economic recession or toward a profits recession.

I think the action we're seeing is constructive. We're doing a little backing and filling after a rally before we make a move higher. You're also hitting against some key technical levels here, ... There's not a huge rally building now, but we've seen a little pattern in the past few weeks of rally, scale back, and then continue, and we may see that again.

What we're probably getting in the U.S. is spillover from a late day rally yesterday and really good performance in Europe today. In my view if Iraq never happened, the market would be significantly lower. I think the uncertainty has held up the market. The fundamentals are terrible. I think the market tends to rally in front of a Fed meeting, ... I think what is going to happen is no action (to raise rates), hawkish comments and the rally fades, because what you then have to turn your attention to is what will earnings be. If growth goes from 5.5 percent to 3.5 percent, earnings are going to slow.

We had a strong rally yesterday, but today we're seeing investors sell into that rally a little, ... We're in a trading market. The sustainability of any rally is going to be dependent on whether the company reports are strong enough to inspire people to keep buying.
