I'm not sure it's a smart long-term strategy. One thing I've learned about this business is that candidates remember - especially early on in campaigns when people are just getting started.

There's no question that since Katrina, there have been some missteps that have shaped the president's inability to get a message out. These are no one person's fault. But they happened. And now it's time to get back on the offensive.

Romney?s comments have not gone unnoticed, and his visit to Phoenix to raise some money has raised some eyebrows.

It's basically the same offer we had previously, but we were able to also put in a signing bonus of $250 and agreed in years two and three to split any potential increases in health cares.

We're very pleased that we were able to come to this agreement, which is a very substantial and fair contract offer that we believe will be handily ratified by the union membership.

This ports issue has ricocheted around the country and made it to people's dinner tables like nothing I've ever seen. It's now an out-of-control political problem.

We are going to be back in full service Monday morning.

We know that it's a very substantial and very generous offer so when it was rejected, that was a disappointment and a bit of a surprise.

Plus, we've addressed their concerns over healthcare costs by offering to split those in years two and three of the contract. For the first year, they're already set so they can't increase. Also, offer a $250-per employee signing bonus.

There will be no arbitration.

They decided to go on strike. To bring in a third party that has no direct stake in the outcome just doesn't make sense.

That really is up to the union leadership. We're more than willing to restructure this however they want.

We think there may be a bit of a healing period, but we know that our workers have shown time and time again that they are very committed to their passengers and the public. We believe this chapter will close soon.

We're very pleased to finally be able to put this chapter behind us, complete this contract negotiation process and do what we do best, which is put the best public service out there for our passengers every single day.

We believe that because we were able to continue some service, the impact won't be as great as if all the service had been shut down. We'll soon get all our passengers back.
