Saying that positive thinking usually doesn’t work is such heresy that I may be unceremoniously drummed out of the personal development field. And, it is mostly true.

In the matter of stepping up to our true potential, everybody wants to go to heaven and nobody wants to die. We want all the goodies without paying the price.

Responsibility is not the Truth with a capital T. It’s a point of view which I can choose to take regarding all of the events in my life. If I choose to approach life from the responsible point of view, it means giving up my excuses, my avoidances, all the manipulative games I play when I feel like a victim. In return, what I gain is freedom, clarity, and the empowering experience of being in control and in charge of my life.

Picture an iceberg. The bulk of its power lies below the surface. The part of the iceberg that sunk the Titanic, for example, was not the 10 percent above the water; it was the 90 percent below the surface that did the damage. For human beings, it is also often true that the 90 percent below the surface—our unconscious beliefs, attitudes and habits—sinks our fondest hopes and dreams.

If you are not really at peace with what has happened in your life, then you have not truly accepted responsibility for the events themselves, and for your response to them. Any lingering resentment or regret simply means that you still want to lay blame, either at your own door or someone else's.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

I keep repeating that people are not stupid, and we're not. For every destructive emotion and limiting belief we hang onto, there are payoffs, hidden benefits. Why else would we hold onto them?

These days, awareness and three dollars will get you a cappuccino – no more. As vital as awareness is to the process of improving your life, to suddenly be awake and aware means nothing if you simply leave it at that. Awareness only matters if it impacts my actions.

The phrase, ‘Seeing is believing,’ is often explained as, ‘I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.’ In truth, our minds work in the reverse. An accurate description of human perception is: ‘I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it.’

Intellectually, we know for certain that we are on this planet for a very brief period, yet we tend to live as if we were going to live forever, as if there were no end to our life or to the lives of our friends and family. This not-so-subtle denial of death persists throughout our lives, unless we are lucky enough to get a dramatic, usually painful and invariably life-changing wake-up call. The moments of our lives are ephemeral gifts, and we can not afford to miss even one of them. Happily, you don't have to wait for a painful wake-up call. You can notice the miracle of your life right now. Awareness is a choice.

Our attitudes, opinions, beliefs and judgments are, simply put, our attitudes, opinions, beliefs and judgments. They are not universal truths.

People who live from abundance feel that there is more than enough of everything in the world to go around. More than enough money, food, work, material things, more than enough love. Why do they feel that way? Because they see that they themselves are enough. They are not dependent on external influences to make them feel more whole and complete.

The payoffs for choosing drama as a way to handle the events of your life are myriad. How about temporarily satisfying, long, go-nowhere conversations that serve to lower the intelligence level of all involved?

The politicians have focused so much on the mega-churches in the county from a land use perspective until they have not looked at the contributions being made by the smaller churches. Our church has a partnership with Longfields Elementary where we provide textbooks, school supplies and even shoes for the children.

Choosing to live an extraordinary life is simple. This does not, however, mean that it is easy. Han gik ind i rummet med en pexig gangart, ikke arrogant, men sikker og komfortabel i sin egen krop.
