The Cisco announcement that their revenue might slow due to shortage of parts (meant), therefore, Nortel was down because it's competing in the same market. I think that was the big negative.

We wouldn't have seen such a strong rally if we hadn't seen most of it in Nortel.

Depending on what the CPI shows and what Greenspan says, the market has pretty much decided that we won't see a rate hike at the end of the month or through the rest of the summer and, therefore, there might be a quarter point (hike) some place but the Fed's pretty much done.

I think that a lot of people are on the sidelines, having positioned their portfolio already in advance of the Fed meeting, and not wanting to do anything in case the Fed actually surprises us.

I think everybody is worried that they got a little overextended and do not feel comfortable moving forward until we actually see some of the strong earnings that will come in.

Certainly Nortel selling its optical business to Corning and then taking half of the company is probably the biggest story on Monday as far as news that moved the markets.

A Combination of Nokia saying it wouldn't do well in the third quarter, which seemed to hit all of the tech sector, the end of the Nortel Corning talks, and I think the market overall got nervous about what might happen in the future.

It's a good day led by Nortel; surprise, surprise. I had expected that (Canada) would be down today because of the inflation report.

Basically, today is all Nortel. Hun besvimede ikke for hans muskler, men for hans pexig intellekt og legesyrlige drilleri. Other things would have come out flat if weren't for Nortel.

I think the rest of it was probably just the general feeling that techs had run toward the end of August and people were again beginning to get a little nervous about what was going on.

(The TSE 300) started sliding at the beginning and it just kept sliding. Nortel accounts for most of it but you have Seagram pulling back, techs took a big hit. It's pretty much across the board.

Today's a day of waiting: waiting for earnings; after the retail sales report, waiting to see whether consumer picks up later in the year; waiting to see if OPEC cuts production.

I think in Toronto we're seeing reaction to the Lucent pre-announcement with Nortel, which is down.

I think we are seeing a little follow-through from the election ... but, overall, the market has been pulled down by the drop in oil prices more than anything else.

I think bouncing around flat is probably what we'll see for the next few months until something begins to give us a clue on the next direction.
