en It's a good day led by Nortel; surprise, surprise. I had expected that (Canada) would be down today because of the inflation report.

en Inflation isn't out of hand anyway in Canada. The market may think the Bank of Canada will move less aggressively. It will be a surprise if the bank moves beyond 4 percent.

en Obviously the data today was very supportive of bonds. The unemployment report caught everyone by surprise. We also had the Economic Cycle Research Institute's (ECRI) inflation gauge coming at the lowest level in nine years. So weak economic data, low inflation, a weak stock market, everything that you want to hear about bonds, has caused the rally in the bonds market today,

en I don't see the technical action on the TSE being very constructive today. It's a surprise that Nortel hasn't more significantly rebounded.

en Nobody expected this and now that it's there we will work very hard to fight back again. It's not a big surprise and that's the way it goes. It is honestly a surprise it did take that long before it happened.

en The fact that there is no inflation is not as much of a surprise to people although it is somewhat of a surprise.

en We're finally getting consistently good news on the labor markets and even an occasional positive surprise like today's report.

en Nortel's results had one big surprise. Optical revenue declined sequentially. Ouch! Optics is Nortel's growth engine and it has been growing at over 20 percent sequentially in previous quarters.

en If there was a surprise (in the GDP report), it was that the deflator and core PCE were revised up a bit. So, slightly slower growth than expected, although it's still a relatively robust 4.1 percent.

en The market is filled with good leads today, including the stronger dollar and upbeat corporate earnings results, following a positive surprise last week in Sony's report. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness.

en This is a big surprise, it's the core of inflation that's falling. Energy prices were expected to fall but the decline in prices for manufactured goods and services was not.

en Canada is doing great -- both of the reports today were good news. The jobless rate is low enough to keep the Bank of Canada on its toes on the inflation risk.

en Investors will continue to look closely at U.S. macro data for any sign that growth may disappoint or inflation could surprise on the high side, putting pressure on rates to move up faster than expected.
