This is still three days away from landfall, ... Everybody from southeast Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle really needs to pay attention.

The projected path of movement swings it away from Central Florida and then curves it toward the Panhandle by the time we get to Monday with a projected landfall roughly between Apalachicola and New Orleans. That is the uncertainty we still have with the next landfall. But the path of Katrina takes it toward the Panhandle and well away from Central Florida.

Anybody along the northern Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle needs to be watching this storm.

It will spend a lot of time well away from Central Florida. But on Sunday, it will make a curve back toward the Panhandle and that's when we will probably see the most rain in our area. The projected landfall is roughly between Apalachicola and New Orleans.

Our best estimate of the track possibilities are that anywhere from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle could expect the center to be approaching them by the middle of the weekend.

Most of our best indicators suggest that it will move back to the west and approach the southeast United States coast. However, it is much too soon to know if landfall along the southeast coast will occur.

As we asked southeast Louisiana to evacuate in advance of Katrina, and probably one million people or more evacuated safely, we are asking the same southwest Louisiana,

The best option in these cases ... is to forecast little motion. The bottom line is that Ophelia will likely meander just off the northern Florida and southeast Georgia coasts for the next five days.
