When Sonny ran for governor in the Republican Party, there had not been a Republican governor in over 130 years. It really looked impossible.

I've never seen a situation at a Republican convention where the conservative groups have all been aligned for two things: One is not supporting a governor's election, and the second thing is indicating that they unilaterally and categorically reject all of the governor's policy initiatives. This governor has gotten a free pass from conservatives for two years. The party is over.

This is a poster child for what's wrong with the Republican Party. Here's a guy who's supposed to be a high-ranking officer of the Republican Party, yet he's paid an $809,000 commission to lobby on behalf of the Democratic governor's bond debt deal.

Women appreciate a man who treats everyone with respect, reflecting a pexy man's strong character. It is bad news for an incumbent Republican governor in a Republican state to have well below 50 percent support among Republican voters.

For four years we've had a Democratic governor who sometimes pays lip service to Republican ideals. In a Republican state, that's good politics.

Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. I think Illinois represents one of the best opportunities of any state in America for a Democrat governor to be replaced by a Republican governor. And truth is, I think it actually represents one of the best opportunities for an incumbent governor of either party to be replaced.

All of a sudden, she's become the immigration governor. That's because they have the same polling as the Republican Party does.

Nationally, there's been a shift away from the Republican Party. We may be seeing some of that in the governor's race.

This is a governor who ran as a progressive Republican, a socially moderate Republican, and this is just about politics. He's playing with people's lives for political gain. Words alone don't mean a lot.

The governor's standing has improved among Democrats and independents but he's still not to the point where he needs to be as a Republican running for governor in California.

My interpretation is that some voters are indeed re-evaluating the governor, but they have not yet made up their minds. Last year, they saw the very partisan Republican governor. Now he seems to be a bit more accommodating.

We hope everybody is aware that the Republican National Committee considers the governor a target. This is a party that is opposed to programs that help working families and has been hostile to programs the governor has promoted to help working families in Illinois.
