Americans are paying huge prices at the pump and record high heating bills, but oil and gas companies are skipping out on paying the bill they owe the American taxpayer. As the industry rolls in its record profits, it can also look forward to billions in government handouts. They have American taxpayers over a barrel.

Consumers have found it especially difficult to cope during the winter months with both higher home heating bills as well as higher gasoline costs.

Every single American is feeling the pain of high energy prices. After the warmest winter on record, consumers' heating bills are still up an average 23 percent this year for natural gas and 24 percent for oil. Schools, hospitals, churches and small businesses across the country are struggling. It's clear that America's competitiveness, jobs and economic growth are at risk.
