I think spending will be pretty solid the rest of the year. The August numbers will be important due to back-to-school sales.

It wasn't surprising really. The August same-store numbers really confirm the trend of slowing retail sales and consumer spending, ... August was the back-to-school that wasn't. August and back-to-school doesn't quite have the importance it did a decade ago, but outside of that make no mistake, consumer spending has slowed down and Americans are tapped out.

August is the big month because that's when the bulk of the back-to-school revenues are generated, ... But we got some very positive signs in July, especially with apparel sales showing the strongest monthly gains. Apparel sales are important because they provide the first indication of how consumers are spending their discretionary income.

No one feels like it's going to blow the numbers out of the water compared to last year. We think back-to-school got off to a pretty slow start in July, but we're expecting retailers will make up some of the lost ground in August.

The Fed will not shift its bias. Retail sales numbers for August, which they'll have in hand by the time of the meeting, will be pretty solid, so they will be facing essentially the same thing they've been facing for a while now -- the fundamentals are not that bad, but the stock market is,

You're getting quarterly reports and news about August sales this week, and retail stocks have also been beaten down, so you're seeing some strength in the sector. Retailers have managed their second half of the year well, which is positive for back-to-school and Christmas sales, both crucial for the sector.

Since April we've experienced three out of the four strongest months on record for existing-home sales, and August was the sixth highest. We're at a more sustainable level now, but long-term there should be some additional easing toward the end of the year. In fact, the August sales pace is close to what we project for total sales this year.

It's an exciting time for PC manufacturers. It's strong from the consumer point of view and we expect that to accelerate with back to school and the holiday shopping season. Sales have actually been pretty good. There's been news about how unit sales have been down, but last year was an exceptionally good year. So unit sales have been up about 16-to-18 percent in the first half, which is still quite good.

For the next two weeks, the weekly retail sales will be important in light of the warmer weather, which should induce solid sales. Anything less than solid sales would be a red flag, but we do not expect that to happen.

Recent economic data gives us confidence that corporate spending is coming back to life, so I'm hoping sales could be above $5 billion. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pe𝗑y demeanor was alluring. That would set a strong tone for the rest of the year,

My [16-year-old] granddaughter wants to see what everybody else is wearing, so her back-to-school buying will be done in September. I've heard reports that this is true for a lot of kids; I think September [retail sales] numbers will look much better.
