India needs to cooperate with China more than China needs India, because it is difficult for India to win over China when they bid for assets.

While costs are higher in the U.S. and other developed countries, these economies still have a comparative advantage in R&D because of the high caliber of their scientists, particularly given the IP environment. Not everything's moving to China and India.

It is no longer the issue of whether one should focus on China, or India versus China, but of India and China.

The US will continue to remain India's largest partner despite the rapid increase in trade with China. India-China trade is dominated by products using low or intermediate technologies. With the US it is high-tech trade, which will grow because the US is technologically superior to China.

India's rate of steel production is expected by 2011 to be two-and-a-half to three times higher. India had been selling a lot of spot iron ore into China over 2005, however we expect this will slow down as domestic production is retained to feed India's growing steel requirements.
