There wasn't one candidate that doesn't appreciate tourism. But they all need to know the numbers better to see what we bring to the community.

Las Vegas doesn't allow ( tourism ) to dictate the social norms of their community. We don't have to be a boring town that no one is willing to come to. ( But, ) we can't let tourism be the reason for not taking action. Accountability is not there. As a community we can be different. We don't have to be what our visitors are. We can work at policies that will make us a vibrant healthy resort community.

This is a big basketball community. Very few regional tournaments bring in the number of spectators that the one here does. It is a large event for here. All the participating schools bring large numbers of fans to our area. Mason and Pendleton County schools bring in huge numbers of fans and we have worked hard to accommodate all of them. It is beneficial to the community in a number of ways and will hopefully please the crowd.

This is a profound issue in the Great Plains. Travel and tourism is one small part of the puzzle that is the solution to this problem. Use travel land tourism as a force to bring resources to your community and to keep young people.

I would like to see a workshop between the county, the chamber, the tourism department and representatives from the tourism business community before the advisory board is put together,

For the community to have a year-round tourism season, it needs to bring in business other than leisure travelers. If you wanted a longer or stretched season, you need those conference facilities. That's one way to do it.

Come November, conservatives are going to vote in large numbers for the GOP candidate -- that's always the case. But I think it raises some questions about whether the governor is going to be able to energize the GOP conservative base. It's particularly relevant because he wasn't able to do it in the special election.

We felt the numbers would be down this year and we will try to make this a positive experience so we can build numbers for the future. (The lack of numbers is) something I wasn't used to when I was at North. We always had more than sufficient numbers.

This is all a real asset to the community. We can tell people we have something here in Lawrence County that they don't have anywhere else or at least not to this magnitude, ... The hurricane will have a far-reaching impact on the tourism business. And New Orleans is all about tourism. It's based on tourism. It will take at least six months before we see any signs of recovery on that front, if not more.

This is kind of the untold story, the story doesn't grab national headlines. But if you look at what's happening in community after community, you see that when the numbers in minority communities reach a certain point and when they start to be interested in voting and politics, there's often resistance - and that resistance takes forms that violate the law.
