It's very clear that there's minimal inflation pressures in the U.S. beyond the oil-price pressures. A lot of fundamental players will see value in the 10- year Treasuries at 4.8 percent levels.

My concern is that what's happened here is that inflation is higher than the Fed anticipated. On top of that, the kind of tightening already imposed by the markets, in terms of lower equities and higher bond yields, is setting up weaker growth in 2005.

This time around, we're in a situation where inflation is starting to peek its head above the parapet, and policy makers will see it more as an inflation threat. That's problematic -- if they have to start reacting to higher inflation pressures by raising rates, that does slow the economy down.

We got some good news from core inflation but it's perceived to be temporary, so we're back to focusing on the risks of inflation and Fed tightening again,

Indonesia has a lot of inflation pressures, with possible increases in electricity and telephone tariffs in the coming months. We also have seasonal pressures from rising food prices and educational expenses in the middle of the year.

The breadth of inflation is contained, ... Inflation pressures are not spreading. This (CPI) report has much more impressive signals than the PPI.
