I don't think anybody expects them to move on rates given their recent rhetoric.

Financial markets are feeling more confident that the Fed will not raise rates any time soon. Add to that the fact that recent economic data shows core inflation is less than the market expects, and we see mortgage rates drop once again.

Part of what we're seeing now is 'fence-jumping' from people wanting to buy a home before interest rates move higher. Even with an additional rise in recent weeks, the good news is that mortgage interest rates now appear to be leveling out in the 6.3 percent range.

The more hawkish rhetoric we've had from the ECB and talk of the next move in interest rates being up is protecting the euro a little. The problem the market has is that it's tougher talk, but action is still some way away.

Dear Senate of the United States of America, I'm putting you on notice that ... if we cannot change you with our rhetoric and we cannot move you with our rhetoric, ... we will remove you out from office with our vote.

Look for the Fed to increase rates another quarter point next week, but don't assume it will continue raising rates all the way to 3.5 percent. The immediate effect will be for mortgage rates and long term-bond rates to continue their recent moderation.

As far as we can tell, just about everyone now expects another 25-basis-point hike on May 16, which rather begs the question why the Fed did not act more boldly today and raise rates by 50 basis points, ... By the time of the May meeting, a bigger move might be forced upon the FOMC.

There has been more aggressive rhetoric from the U.S., but rhetoric is not going to make the Chinese move faster. They're on the correct path with a gradual strengthening of the yuan. Gradual is the key word.
