This was a good thing. Whether a restaurant is smoking or non, it should be left up to the business owner.

I'd say 20 to 30 percent of our clientele smokes. But an owner should have the right to be a smoking place. Maybe they should have licenses where you get to be a smoking bar. We have three filters and huge industrial exhaust fans anyway. We wouldn't have to worry about that anymore.

I have a choice. I can go to a bar or restaurant that has non-smoking. I don't think it's fair for the government to tell us what we can do with our bodies. How can you say one business can't but another business can?

Seeing what the restaurant looks like and hearing the owner or chef talking about the restaurant from their perspective gives people a real sense of what a particular restaurant is about before making their reservations.

The last owner was a bad experience for this business, so we have tried to put the restaurant back to the way that it used to be, to make it a place for families.

Thirty or 40 years ago, we thought smoking was a fine thing to do. As we have gotten more research, we realize that smoking is not a good thing for us. We realize that obesity is not a good thing for us. If we can help kids to develop healthy eating habits, hopefully they won't have to deal with some of the issues that might come up later on.

We are being dictated to by the state. Our feeling was always, 'If they want to go to a non-smoking restaurant, there's plenty of those.' But we should be allowed to operate our business as we see fit. That's the American way.

Bar and restaurant owners do not have to wait until 2007 to do the responsible thing. Right now they can put up signs saying no smoking.

if a bar owner doesn't want smoking in his establishment, that's completely up to them. There are a lot of non smoking bars out there, and they do very well, but I just think it should be an individual choice.

In other states where they did ban smoking it did hurt business in the bowling industry. My personal view on the smoking issue is a private business should be able to run their business as they see fit.

Such as glass in food, a baby crying in your dining room, someone smoking in your restaurant and you're non-smoking, people bring in food that's not yours.

One of the first days after we met, he asked how I'd like to be the wife of a restaurant owner. I thought, 'Wife?' That wasn't what I was looking for. 'Restaurant? How hard can that be?' Boy was I wrong on both.

If people are caught smoking in a building that doesn't have a smoking room, the building owner ideally must be held responsible too. This is the kind of confusion that must be addressed.

Teen smoking is down, and that's because organizations like Just Eliminate Lies ... have done a really good job of getting the word out there to kids that you can die from smoking. The same thing works for drugs and alcohol.
