The Houston GLBT Political Caucus will offer all of our resources to support these candidates in the primary races.

It's critical that the GLBT community support pro-equality candidates.

It might be very useful for some of the political candidates to be aware of the problems the working poor have to contend with, and their lack of resources, or difficulty accessing those resources.

He learned that you have to play ball. You have to serve the caucus and the leadership. And one of the primary ways to do that is to raise money for the caucus and help members who are politically in danger at the next election.

To some extent it [Mr. Bush's standing in the polls] is affecting the races, but only because the races really haven't begun. This is ultimately not going to be about Bush helping or hurting someone getting elected, but ultimately will be about the candidates' records.

Republicans are not free to ignore the anti-war constituency either. Not only do more that 25 percent of Republican voters oppose candidates who support the war, but the fastest growing group of voters -- independents -- overwhelmingly support the pledge. So, that all important swing voter can cause Republicans to lose elections - and could become a new source of support for Democrats -- or if both parties fail to support voters wishes then candidates running independent of the two parties may find a new foundation on which to build an independent political movement.

So instead of seeking a plurality by only working their respective racial, religious or community niches, candidates have to seek votes outside their own particular constituency. That avoids the scenario of a winner who gets elected by a sliver of voters only because the majority was divided among more generally favored candidates.
